First Citizens executive to lead SC Bankers

COLUMBIA - Sharon W. Bryant - regional executive vice president for First Citizens' Central South Carolina region, director of the bank's Wealth Advisory Group and president of First Citizens Securities, the company's in-house brokerage firm in Columbia - has been installed as the 111th chairman of the South Carolina Bankers Association for the 2011-12 fiscal year. Her term began July 1.

Bryant, a 27-year banking veteran, joined First Citizens in 1999 as director of human resources. As regional executive vice president for First Citizens' Central South Carolina region, Bryant is responsible for retail and commercial sales in her metro and community markets.

As director of the bank's Wealth Advisory Group, she oversees private banking and the delivery of investment management, trust and estate planning, insurance planning, and 401(k) and retirement planning.

Within the South Carolina Bankers Association, Bryant served as an officer, including chairman-elect, first vice chairman and treasurer. Prior to that, she served as an SCBA board member from 2002-04; as BankPAC chair from 2003-04; as a member of SCBA's State Legislative Committee and Human Resource Committee; and, as a trustee of the South Carolina Bankers Employee Benefits Trust.

"I look forward to serving as chairman of the South Carolina Bankers Association," Bryant said. "My charge is to further the mission of this well-respected organization and to serve as an advocate and information resource for all South Carolina banks and thrifts, especially with regard to upcoming regulatory reform implementation."

A Columbia native, Bryant earned her bachelor's degree from the University of the South, Sewanee. She is a licensed securities representative and principal as well as a 1995 graduate of Leadership Columbia. Bryant is a 2004 recipient of the Women of Distinction award given by the Girl Scouts of The Congaree Area Inc., a 1997 recipient of the YWCA's Tribute to Women in Industry, and a 1997 winner of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce's ATHENA Awards. She was a founding member of the United Way of the Midlands' Women in Philanthropy affinity group and is a Junior League Sustainer.
