Crysis 2 DX11 Tessellation & High-Res Texture PackAttempting to install the new Crysis 2 1.9 update and added DX11 Tessellation & High-Res Texture Pack felt like anything but a "gift." We give you our first hand experience and a treasure trove of screen shots for good measure. Crysis 2 is a little closer to what it should have been at launch, but certainly the gameplay is still meh.
Now that the Crysis 1.9 patch is finally out, we wanted to install it as well as the DX11 Tessellation and High-Res Texture packs so we could take a handful of screenshots to show you guys the difference this DX11 update is supposed to make on the visual quality of the game. When I started out, I did not think this would end up being an editorial, but I will share my thoughts at the end.
Unfortunately, what should have been a simple installation procedure, turned into a four and a half hour ordeal just trying to get the game updated to version 1.9 and the patches installed.
Using a full retail copy of the game, we installed Crysis 2 into the default directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis 2) and launched the game. Immediately, before the game starts, an update utility launches and attempts to update the game. I say attempt because the update utility constantly crashed giving various errors messages each time it did.
Finally, after several attempts, we were able to get the game updated and patches installed...but now we were greeted with messages stating that we needed the most current version of the game installed (1.9) even though we had just installed the 1.9 patch.
Adding insult to injury, the DX11 Tessellation and Texture packs also wouldn't install because the game thought they were already installed, even though they weren't:
Step 1: Install the game but DO NOT start the game. This prevents the auto updater from launching.
Step 2: Download the 1.9 patch manually (I used this link ) and install it.
Step 3: Start the game and enter your 20 digit code. Start a campaign and the immediately save and quit.
Step 4: Restart your computer.
Step 5: Install DX11 Tessellation pack. Start a campaign and then immediately save and quit.
Step 6: Restart your computer.
Step 7: Install High-Res Texture pack.
Step 8: Restart your computer.
Step 9: Start game, select the "Ultra" option in the graphics settings menu. Select "Yes" for high-res textures in the advanced games menu.
