Letter: Create a responsible government

We can stop the hollowing out of our country in one election cycle if we join together.

First, quit listening to corporate news opinion stations. They have a vested interest in directing our attention away from important issues. For example: the hours of rant about the supposed war on Christmas vs. little time addressing the very real billions of dollars spent on crony corporate welfare or explosive military overexpansion and waste. This has allowed police and firefighters to be laid off while corrupt and destructive banks receive billions of our future earnings in bailouts.

Next, end corporate personhood. Corporate personhood has turned corporations into crime families that grow stronger each election cycle in their influence on our economy and government. Demand campaign finance reform and insist on public financing of all candidates, with stiff penalties for candidates who cheat.

Make the playing field equal so ideals and solutions can be tested during elections, not spending and ability. We will get a responsible government only when we take the pressure of big money off of our politicians. Finally, we need to become informed and involved. We are this generation’s defenders of freedom, and so far we have completely failed.
