League of Legends Review

I wish I knew what I know now back when League of Legends first came out. I remember playing World of Warcraft and hearing people say in chat that if you wanted real PVP you should play League of Legends. I looked at the site, but it never clicked for me. I saw RTS and was instantly turned off, because besides StarCraft II I can't think of any other RTS that I'm actually good at. DotA was thrown around on the site and I didn't have a clue what that meant. I decided to finally man up, download the game, and see what all the fuss was about. As it turns out, the fuss was well-warranted, as League of Legends is an intense, strategic, and wildly fun game.

League of Legends falls into a MMO subgenre of games that is becoming more popular day-by-day and yet it's almost impossible to properly label it. The best way to describe League of Legends is to imagine an RTS game, remove almost all of the micromanagement, and then give players a unique hero character that they exclusively use within the game much like if they were to play an RTS game and only had to focus on using one unit while the rest was fairly automated.

The recommended number of players is 5 to 1 or 10 to 2 and the playable area is 116 x116. Warcraft III action is set in different maps of various sizes such as fields and large plains, featuring mountains, seas, rivers, or cliffs. In Campaign mode initially the map is covered with a black mask, which represents a dark layer that obscures the landscape until is is explored. Once the black mask is removed it stays like this for good.

For those areas which have been explored but no longer within the sight range of an allied building or unit are covered with the fog of war, although terrain remains visible, changes like enemy building construction and troop movements remain unseen.

In Warcraft 3 there are three main resources: food, lumber,gold and players must establish settlements to gain the resources, train units to explore the map and attack enemies which are computer controlled foes, and defend those resource settlements against other players. Gold and lumber are required to construct buildings and units, while food may restrict the maximum number of units that the player is able to control at one time.

This video game is introducing creeps, those are computer control units that are hostile to all players, and they are guarding key areas such gold mines and neutral buildings. When killed it provides gold, points and special items to a player’s hero.
