Valley schools cutting back on health classes
Teen health statistics The state Department of Education does not require that health be a standalone class, but requires that schools cover six areas: alcohol, tobacco and drug issues; human growth and development; safety; mental, emotional and social health; nutrition and physical activity; personal and community health.
School district officials say the information will be covered regardless, but health advocates say that health is a class that should not be compromised in light of all the dangers teens face:
About 15 percent of teens aged 12-17 were considered overweight or obese in 2005, but that figure is expected to rise. Half of Coachella Valley youth aged 2-17 are overweight or obese.
About 28-34 percent of high school students in the Coachella Valley's three public school districts reported feeling hopeless and sad every day for two weeks or more.
About 17-20 percent of ninth graders in Coachella Valley schools seriously considered attempting suicide.
The teen birth rate in Riverside County has steadily de-clined in the past decade from 65.4 births per 1,000 females between ages 15 and 19 in 1997 to 41.4 births in 2006.
Riverside County is among the 19 counties that have a significantly higher three-year teen birth rate than the state average.
About 29 percent of all chlamydia cases — Riverside County's most prevalent sexually transmitted disease — were in those aged 15-19 in 2009; another 39 percent were aged 20-24.

So much for the imaginary wall between Church and State progressives revered until recently. Hyper-liberal Maryland, ranked as having the least personal freedom in the union , will no longer allow anyone to graduate from high school who hasn't been deemed sufficiently indoctrinated in the cult of Envirofascism, as Curriculum Matters announced yesterday:
Today's vote by the Maryland board of education requires that students get a "comprehensive, multi-disciplinary environmental education" before receiving a diploma. Districts will have to develop plans for coursework that meets state standards in environmental literacy and have their plans approved by the state superintendent of schools. They will also have to develop ways to assess students' mastery of the material in order to determine if they are eligible for graduation. The action today follows a decision by the board last summer to require that students get a bigger dose of environmental literacy than they had been getting in typical science classes. There was some confusion, however, about whether that action actually made environmental literacy a graduation requirement. Today's vote was intended to clear up that confusion and make the requirement official. This is simply a great commercial for home schooling, if, that is, you care about your children. It also proves, once again, that what has been the case for generations is still the case, that our public education system is still controlled by communists (via the teachers unions they control) who have been raising generations of weak, mindless, anti-Americans. (a.k.a. useful idiots)

Hey, it's a GREAT idea to teach kids about "environmentalism" and the "green" movement.
Just be sure you teach them ALL about it, esp. about the main players in the game.
