Revisiting Live at Knebworth
The grounds of Knebworth House has been host to some huge rock concerts over the years. The place where the UK has been reformed Deep Purple first played in 1985. A year later it was where Queen played their last live show (with Freddie Mercury). In 1979, he has been the site of two performances of Led Zeppelin, the return of the group on the British scene, after four years. The shows are often pirated legend Jimmy Page just standing. He wears a blue shirt that changes color in mid-concert because of his sweat-rate.In 2003, Robbie Williams released a live album from there.
Uh, yeah, anyway ...
My introduction to Knebworth was the benefit concert featuring 1990 winners Silver Clef Award. He was charged with enthusiasm as "The best British rock concert of all time" 21 years and if it might be easy to laugh at range of dinosaurs, it was a formative experience for me.
The concert was broadcast on New Zealand television. Later he was released in a series of VHS tapes (I have caught the warehouse - even if I had the TV show taped).I also had a double cassette tape - and two years ago it was reissued on CD. I do not hang on to a large number of CDs these days, just a few favorites and everything I love by local artists, music, compilations and a few things of sentimental value. The Live CD is a classic Knebworth.Check the program and you're either right with me - or you might laugh a lot and how obvious it looks terrible: Tears for Fears, Status Quo, Cliff Richard & The Shadows, Robert Plant, Genesis, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Pink Floyd.
I do not listen to much music from the artists of that time - no more. But it is on the context. At the time I was the biggest fan of Eric Clapton on the planet (it seemed anyway). Same Dire Straits. I could take it or leave Elton, Cliff, Genesis and Tears for Fears - I'm probably more likely to skim their careers today than Clapton and Dire Straits - and was (and still am) a fan of McCartney, plant and Floyd.

On June 30th 1990 in the grounds of Knebworth House a concert was staged to raise funds for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and the Brit School For Performing Arts. It has since been heralded as one of the best British rock concerts of all time. With the line-up drawn entirely from acts who had been recipients of the prestigious Sliver Clef Award presented annually by Nordoff-Robbins for outstanding services to the British Music Industry, all the artists gave their time and performances for free in order to support the charity.
A "Deluxe Edition" DVD/CD set sneaked out unannounced and un-noticed on June 14th last year, which is a shame as it celebrates the 20th anniversary of this concert. This new edition will continue to raise funds so that they can continue their invaluable work, and contains the double DVD and double CD in the same package for the first time. Also included, which might be quite tempting for some, are a replica of the original event programme and a replica of the original ticket for the event. These are packaged together in a fold out digipack inside a slipcase with metallic silver ink lettering.
As you'll see from the tracklisting below, it featured quite a line-up, playing some of their best songs for the audience who braved some interesting weather on the day! The release features a number of highlights from each artist, but sadly complete sets from the artists were never officially released.
There are very few retailers who have this available, all of whom are in Europe (the DVDs are encoded in PAL format). You can order it from HMV.com , or from Amazon UK , Amazon France , Amazon Italy , or Amazon Germany . It is currently cheapest by far at Amazon UK, which has the set available at almost half recommended retail price.
