Saturday: Waa Kaukahi (single-hull boats)
Women begin to paddle this event 18 miles from Kailua Bay to Honaunau. The men then bring it back 18 miles to Kailua Bay. Ironman divisions do so with no change! Same team takes all the way! Awards - just after the end of the race of men. Torchlight party starting at dusk.
Sunday: Waa Kaulua (double-hulled canoe)
On Sunday, men and women tie together two single-hulled canoes to the double hull, and women and mixed start to double hulls, taking the Waa (canoe) 3 miles south of Lyman, turn there and back to Kailua Bay for a total of six miles.
Sunday: OC1 (one person) and OC2 races (two people)
The OC1 and OC2 racing canoes are a recent addition to the more traditional races. Men and women paddling in it follow the same route as the double-hulled canoes.
Sunday: Stand-up Paddleboard
Course goes south at Casa de Emdeko turn there and back to Kailua Bay for a total of 3 miles. Advice is available for rent in Kona boys Kamakahonu 808-322-4166 or 808-329-2345 Bay.
Sunday: Teen (single-hull boats)
We are again this year, the addition of three divisions Keiki (OC-6-6 person teams): 16 and under, 18 years old and mixed, 18 and under. Young paddling race followed the same route as the double-hulled canoes. Luau & Awards to follow.
Monday: Alii Challenge (single-hulled canoes - 12 person crew)
This is the second year for the Challenge Alii. The course will take place in the north, the first round will be a buoy outside the harbor Honokohau. Then the course will double back on itself and the second round will be a buoy about 1 / 2 mile south of Kailua-Kona Pier. The third round will be right about where the finish line of the race of men on Saturday to approach short of a corridor marked by buoys off the pier where the crew change for 6 women and 6 men will be held. A newly formatted race from start to finish.
