WINTER HAVEN - Winter Haven A mother is accused of beating his 4-year-old son in the face with a belt because he misbehaved at school.

Cynthia Denise Aaron, 30, was jailed Friday on charges of child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a child.

His son - who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder - has been in trouble at school Sept. 20 arrest report said.

When the school sent him home that day, the boy must have been searching for a staff member because he did not want to leave.

He returned to school the next day with facial bruising and a split lip, the report said.

Aaron told a Department of Children and Families investigator she did not know what caused the wounds of her son, but acknowledged disciplining his children with a belt.

The boy's older sister told investigators she saw her mother hit him in the face with a belt because he misbehaved at school.

The boy has become withdrawn at school, the report says, and the incident could have aggravated his attention disorder.

The State has the boy and his six years with a parent sister.

Flooding temporarily closed the road Frostproof

Frostproof - Lake Arbuckle Park and Campground at 2600 Arbuckle Lake Road was temporarily closed due to flooding after rains.

The Polk County officials will announce when we are able to re-open the park.

2011/01/07 - Lake Arbuckle Park Campground, Frostproof, FL ...

Drove north from Sebring about 14 miles on US-27 to Scenic Highway 17, to Frostproof and then east on back roads about 7 miles, to this little, out-of-the-way county park. What a find! Just a quiet, peaceful county park next to an Air Force bombing range. (doesn't happen very often). On the north shore of Lake Arbuckle (about 5 miles long, a mile wide and 8 feet deep! Birds, gators and lots of trails in the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest. There's a boat launch here... a bit of local activity on week-ends... but it's quiet, friendly folks, spaced-out sites (about 30) and with electricity, water and a bath house... a deal at $17 a night! We're happy here... dragging our feet southward... hiking and looking at birds. The hosts Levon and Avelean are just the nicest people... and the town of Frostproof (Donna calls it Frostbite ... is just big enough to have what you need, although a poor food store. However, it did have a very cool restored antique car 'dealership', 'O'Hara Restoratons'... very cool stuff. There are also a couple good, family restaurants... one with a 50's retro theme. These were good, sunny, warm days here... relaxed and lazy. We drove through the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest... sand pine flatlands... found a couple state forest campgrounds that were small, isolated and without any facilities beyond a basic outhouse and trash dumpster. $5 a night! We'll try to hit these on the way back north... and look for other state park campgrounds as we go!
