Shoemaker, now 90, credited Roy Fong, an 87-year-old Foster City resident who also was at the reunion, with helping him find his way home. Shoemaker said when he got separated from his squadron, all he knew was that he was somewhere over France.
In an effort to help California foster kids feel prepared and confident this school year, Sleep Train is hosting its annual School Supply Drive for Foster Kids. Donations of new school supplies can be made at any Sleep Train store now through Sept. 5.
