Hamburg woman headed to court on meth charges
ORWIGSBURG - The Berks County woman who police say was with the man killed in a May raid on a Wayne Township methamphetamine laboratory must defend against eight charges stemming from that incident, a judge decided Tuesday.
Enough evidence exists to support the charges against Wanda M. Bowman, Hamburg, Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier ruled Tuesday in ordering held for court four counts of conspiracy and one each of possession with intent to manufacture a controlled substance, possession of red phosphorous, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Ferrier allowed Bowman, who turns 54 today, to remain free on $100,000 unsecured bail pending further court action.
State police at Reading allege that Bowman conspired with Jeffrey A. Wolfe Sr., 56, of Summit Station, to manufacture methamphetamine on May 4 in a trailer at the residence they shared at 6 Blue Mountain Heights.
About 6 a.m. May 4, members of the state police Special Emergency Response Team attempted to serve a search warrant, which Ferrier had issued, on Wolfe.
During the raid, Wolfe pointed a loaded pump-action shotgun at troopers, police said. A member of the team shot and killed Wolfe, according to police.
On May 13, county District Attorney James P. Goodman ruled that the shooting of Wolfe was justified.
Bowman was not injured during the incident.

Wolfe, Douglas Moyle, 87, of Brooklyn, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 27th, 2011.
Born January 9th, 1924 in LaHave, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Edgar and Katherine (Corkum) Wolfe.
Doug sailed on the Maid of Sterling and Markland for the Mersey Paper Company. He was a veteran of World War II serving in Germany, France and Holland as a tank driver. At the end of the war upon his discharge he was awarded the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal . Doug operated a taxi business in the Liverpool area for over 60 years, also serving as a part-time chauffeur for Bowater Mersey Paper Company. From 1965 to 1990 he and his wife, Margaret, owned and operated Wolfe’s Grocery Store in Sandy Cove, Queens County. He was a member of the Veteran’s Club and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 38, Liverpool.
He is survived by his loving wife Margaret, son David (Doris), of Mississauga, Ontario, daughter Cindy (Peter) Rawding, of Antigonish; grandchildren, Dean, Patricia and Clint Wolfe, Matthew, Amanda and Katie Rawding, and Michelle (Adam) McInness, a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Norma Godfrey.
He was predeceased by his sisters Marion Richards, Ruby Dowell and brother Ronald.

Very sad to hear of Doug’s passing. As a young guy, I always enjoyed going into his store, he was always smiling and always had something funny to say. When I would bump into him at the post office and asked how he was, his reply was “if I told you, you’d be jealous”. He was very well liked and will be greatly missed. My condolences to the family during this sad time.
