Johnny Sauter made an identical but illegal move in the Truck Series’ last outing at Texas Motor Speedway, crossing the finish line first but drawing a penalty that relegated him to the 22nd position.
Will Sauter, who retained his points lead following the Texas fiasco, be looking to redeem himself in Thursday’s Truck Series race at Kentucky (live on SPEED at 8 p.m. ET; NCWTS Setup with Krista Voda at 7:30 p.m. ET) with his second win of the year? Sauter didn’t give away that elusive first victory at Texas like Ragan did at Daytona in February, but he did give up valuable points in his quest to claim the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship.
Restrictor-plate races, such as last weekend’s edition, are known to produce first-time winners. Daytona has produced 17 in the Cup Series and two in the Truck Series. Kentucky Speedway, on the other hand, has yielded only one first-time winner in 11 Truck Series races – Carl Edwards in 2003 – and three in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
